Do you love Christian Historical Fiction? I sure hope so, because that's predominantly what I write! 😅 I am also an avid reader of this genre, and have been since Love Came Softly by Janette Oke was published in 1979. Christian Historical Fiction—Let's Chat!

But what subgenres of Christian Historical Fiction do readers seem to be flocking to over the last few years?

Christian Romance remains popular, but what other Christian Historical flavors are readers loving lately?hristian Historical Fiction—Let's Chat!

📖 Biblical Fiction

Lesser-known Biblical characters are being introduced against the backdrop of ancient settings and bringing them to life. I've had the pleasure of reading several books in this genre that are heavily researched, emotionally gripping, and spiritually uplifting by authors such as Jenifer Jennings, Francine Rivers, Eva Marie Everson, and Angela Hunt. 🏡 20th-Century Americana

The 1920s through the 1950s, with their small towns, family secrets, and "everybody knows everybody" communities, provide some good old-fashioned and nostalgic romance that is drawing modern readers in. My short stories, A Ruby Red Perspective, Cowboy Up, and A Side of Hope were all set in the 40s and 50s. I had so much fun writing them! Christian Historical Fiction—Let's Chat!

❤️ Romance Plus

The blending of genres is becoming increasingly popular—Christian Historical Romance plus suspense and/or mystery and/or adventure. This is where my WIPs, The Streets of London and A Love Worth More Than Gold fall—Think romance + historical + danger! Combinations such as these create fast-paced stories where the characters must trust God through difficult and dangerous circumstances. They must come to know the Timeless Love of God before they can claim the one their hearts desire. Christian Historical Fiction—Let's Chat!

📚 Series, Sequels, and Sagas—Oh, my!

Multi-book stories follow siblings, families, sometimes through generations, or may unite a group of friends, acquaintances, or themes. Continuing stories also give authors more time to explore issues of faith, redemption, and the personal struggles of their characters, which I personally love. Here are two examples: Reluctant Healer of Halifax-Book 6 by Terrie Todd and The Texas Ever After Series by Karen Witemeyer.

🕰️ Dual Timelines and Time Travel

Sometimes these storylines go between contemporary and historical times, but I'm reading a series of seven books by Gabrielle Meyer that has the stories running between two historical timelines. When the Day Comes, the first in the Timeless series and the one I'm currently reading, travels between the Colonial and the Gilded Age eras. Also, my friend, Author Pamela G. Baker, whom I've introduced before, has written the New Hope series of time travel books you may enjoy.
