The Christian Life: "Except Jesus," A poem inspired by Matthew 5:8.
Welcome! If you've been following this series, you know this is the sixth poem in my series of poems inspired by the beatitudes found in Matthew 5. I'm so glad you are here whether you are a regular or a newbie. Today's poem focuses on Matthew 5:8.
"Except Jesus"

"The pure in heart,
Shall see God.
A fear inducing thought,
For someone like me.
Not everyone proclaims,
Their problems,
Issues,
Opinions.
I rarely do.
But I know,
What I am capable of.
I know,
The dark thoughts.
The bitterness.
The rage.
The rebellion.
I once held onto,
Like a vice.
Once?
Yes, I said once.
But no more.
And the fear I mentioned,
Gone.
All gone.
How?
You may ask.
Jesus.
I don't understand.
You may say.
Jesus.
He washed,
My sin-stained heart. The heart that had no chance,
Of ever being pure.
Ever.
Never could I wash away,
The stain myself.
I was doomed to remain,
Doomed.
Except Jesus,
Knew the way,
The only way,
To make my heart,
Pure.
Completely,
Totally,
Pure.
His death,
On the cross.
His blood,
Shed for me.
Has washed away,
The darkness.
Has washed away,
The bitterness.
Has washed away,
The rage.
Has wash away,
All of my sin.
The sin that kept me,
From Him.
And now my heart,
My sin-stained heart,
Is clean,
So clean.
Is pure,
So pure.
Is ready,
So ready,
To see God."
